Week 14 - Damascus For Another 6 Weeks

Dear Family,
This past week has been great. All of hard work in the ward is really starting make a difference and we are starting to see some huge differences. We currently have 5 investigators, 2 are considered progressing.  Last night we got call outs so that was very stressful. We found out that elder Steed is the only one leaving out our district. He is going to Brooklyn Park, Annapolis as a Zone Leader, in a tri companship training one elder. So that's crazy, I going to be in Damascus for another 6 weeks. Transfer meeting is on Wednesday and we have to take our car in for retirement so that is going to be interesting to see if we get a new car. We got to do a Church tour this week with one of our investigators, it went great. She is the investigator who's boy friend is a less active so if we can get her to come back to church we can also get him. They committed to come to Church this week so keep your fingers crossed. We got to talk to some crazy guy yesterday who stopped us and asked if we believe in Allah, we told him yes, we believe in God and then he came over a talked to us. One of his first questions was about polygamy we got that addressed and then he started talking about how there used to be 17 foot tall people walking the earth called Almacs and how they served the Pharaoh and how Jesus walked the earth when all of the continents were together. We taught him the Restoration and then he started going off on how the Illuminati, it was a fun conversation and he thanked us for talking with him and he went on his way. It is crazy to find out what some people believe.  I got to go on exchanges to Urbana this past week, they went great. Other than that there is not a whole lot to mention.

Week 13 - The Nicest Non-Members I Have Met so Far.

Hi Family,
This past week has been awesome. We started off the week kind of slow but it ended up being a great week. On Tuesday, we were clear in the corner of our ward boundaries and we were ahead of schedule and we were in the sisters area so we gave them a call and asked  if there is anyone that they wanted us to visit. They gave us a name and we went over to their house and knocked on the door. An older lady answered the door and she asked if we would like to sit down and have a drink of water until her husband got home, then we could talk to him. We agreed and sat down out in her back yard around their table. She asked what our favorite scripture was so I shared Helamon 5:12 about having a strong foundation in Christ. Her husband arrived and they told us that we were the 8th pair of missionaries to visit them and that they love missionaries and what we do. They are devote Methodists. They are big fans of the 4H organization and so Elder Steed talked to them about that for a while and then they offered to take us out to get pizza so we did that and then afterward they took us on a tour of their neighbors cow operation. They are the nicest non members that I have meet so far. Since they are on the sisters side we had to hand them over to the sisters but hey whatever works.
On Friday we attended the Baltimore Orioles game. The mission bought tickets for all of the missionaries to attend. It was awesome. It was the Baltimore Orioles VS. Colorado Grizzlies. The Grizzlies won 6-3 but it was awesome to finally get to see the city of Baltimore. It is huge and full of all sorts of skyscrapers and a ton of people. We were able to visit some less actives we have not been able to see and the work is really starting to pick up.  Transfers are coming up on next Wednesday so it will be interesting to see what happens to me.
Love Ya!

Week 12 - A New Investigator and a House Full of Tropical Birds

Hi Family,
This past week has been pretty exciting. We started it off by following up on a referral that the sisters gave us. His name was Brian, when we knocked on the door a little man opened and welcomed us in. We stepped in and and immediately were over come by loud screeches coming from maybe 30 birds in the main living room. They were all very brightly colored tropical birds. Apparently we had just stepped into a tropical bird refuge run by Brian "the bird man" The guy that let us in gave us a  tour of the place. In the back room there were even more birds and then in the garage, they kept all of their big big birds. None of the birds were small, the smallest was probably like 8 inches tall. The guy that runs it let us take a walnut and crack it and then we got to feed it to a bird. As soon as we had the nut in our hands all of the birds would focus in on us. They all wanted some so I did my best to make sure all of them got a piece. It was very exciting, they are low on volunteers right now so they said that we could volunteer for a day sometime. I did not get any pictures but next time I will. We asked how many birds he had and he said around 60, he had lost track a while ago.  We did exchanges with another set of elders this week. And I was paired with an elder who cannot drive so we biked most the day and then at night we were able to get a ride during elders quorum team-ups. We found a new investigator this week through a headquarters referral, meaning that she referred herself online. After her inactive brother became active again she really saw a difference in him and saw a light about him and she wants that light. We had a zone leader come and do team ups with us for 48 hours so that was fun. We were able to meet with quite a few less actives this week and are really starting to build up some relationships so we are getting closer to reactivating them. Over all the wards missionary effort is really speeding up and I am excited for anther missionary work filled week.
Have a fantastic week!

Week 11 - District Meeting

Hello Family,
This last week we were able to get quite a few lessons in. On Tuesday in district meeting I had to instruct on teaching people not lessons that went pretty well. On Thursday we were able to attend zone conference. We had to bring our cars for a clean car inspection. We passed. In zone conference there was a big emphasis on making sure we are always letting out light shine and be an example to everyone. Sis. Richards likened us to Waldo from "Where's Waldo" everyone recognizes us and it is up to us to act like a representative of Christ at all times. Reminded me of Matthew 5: 14-16 We also discussed the proper way to getting referrals. In our practices we used the videos from the "Hastening the Work of Salvation" if you have not seen them you should check them out. On Saturday we spent nearly the whole day at the church. We helped out  at a handicapped children's event held there in the morning and then then right after that activity ended we started setting up for a ward pioneer activity. They both turned out to be great. We did a lot of planned and unplanned service this week and we found a new investigator. Other than those activities nothing really exciting happened this week.
